Direct Mail

I received a direct mailing from Best Buy because I am a part of their Rewards Zone program.

This particular reward was not very effective because it was save 10% on your next purchase of $50 or more, and by the time the coupon expires I won't need anything that expensive from Best Buy.

The impact would be more helpful if I was in the need of a larger electronic purchase.

  2. Yeah.. that would be useless if you weren't looking to make a big purchase. Maybe they're trying to influence you to make a bigger purchase by giving you the discount. Quite clever.

  3. That is exactly how they try to trick you into spending money. 10% off a $50 purchase sounds great, but in reality it is only $5. They rarely offer a meaningful discount.

  4. The last time our family received a coupon from Best Buy we had had earned $40 in free merchandise. The coupons we received were only good for a matter of weeks so we ended up purchasing gift cards with them. This granted us more time and prevented us from going out and making a random impulse buy.

  5. Best Buy thinks they're being sneaky. Saving 10% would only be useful for smaller purchases on like CDs or movies, not a TV.
